Russell Brunson’s ExitFire Review

There’s a new viral “exit” software on the market.  I’m always on the lookout for interesting tools and strategies to help my clients increase their online visibility and traffic.  I clicked through to the website and signed up to give the service a test run (it’s FREE – you can find out more at ExitFire).

Russell states that over 99% of the visitors who come to your website will NEVER buy.  He goes on to say that there’s a way to turn people LEAVING your website into NEW targeted traffic.  Intrigued by the e-mail, I surfed on over to the ExitFire site to find out more information.

First Impressions

I’m not entirely sure if the service will live up to it’s claims but I’ve installed it on one of my sites that is currently getting zero traffic which probably isn’t the best strategy but I’m trying to approach the experiment from the newbie level.  If I were interested in getting traffic to a site that wasn’t currently getting any traffic and this service promised to do so, my first instinct would be to install the code on the site.

For most newbies, they’ve just encountered the first challenge: getting the code they need onto their site.  It’s one line of javascript that needs to be installed on a page right after the <body> tag.  For some people, that might be a simple task.  For others, it may pose a bit of a challenge.  I’ll post a quick video tutorial on how to get the code installed shortly.

If you have a blog, chances are you won’t know where to add the code.  I recommend just adding it into a sidebar widget so that it’s available in your blog template.  I tried it on one of my blogs as a test and it worked as expected.

How ExitFire Works

Once the code is installed on your site, when someone visits your blog or lands on the page to which you have added the javascript code, nothing remarkable happens until you leave or exit the site.  Then you’re presented with the popup you see to the right.

Seems simple enough, click OK to leave the page or cancel to view one of the partner sites.

Within the ExitFire admin panel, there’s an area where you can set up the websites you want displayed when you earn credits.  You earn credits when you refer others to ExitFire and when someone clicks on the exit popup.  In the few minutes it’s taken me to generate this post, I’ve already earned three ad credits.

I’m not quite sure yet how that translates into dollars and cents but it will be interesting to monitor the progress over the next few weeks.

Once you click Cancel, a random partner website is generated for display.  The first time I tested the popup, I was thrown into a loop of three different sites.  I kept clicking cancel and after about three sites got tired of the game, thinking I was going to be stuck in an endless loop of exit pop-ups.  So I can see how that could get annoying to a visitor who just wants to leave!

When I tested it again through another browser, I was shown only one site and clicking cancel again brought me to the ExitFire site.  Third test through another browser on another machine brought me straight to the ExitFire site.  I’m hoping that that means they have some kind of algorithm running that tracks clicks to prevent click fraud rather than it being a bug in the system.

The Proof Will Be In The Pudding

I’ll be monitoring my new toy over the next few weeks to see if traffic increases significantly on the sites I’ve added to my profile.  It should be easy to see a huge spike in activity.  I’ll be sure to post any significant results.
